We’ve enjoyed hosting thousands of guests at Lydham Hall House Museum since our reopening to the community in February 2024. Some of our memorable moments happened in the garden and on the verandah, with a view to Botany Bay. It’s the ideal space where community groups, including the St George Sutherland Scottish Pipe Band, St George Brass Band, and Rockdale Opera Company have performed to a captivated audience.
Thanks to a generous community grant from Bayside Council, our gardens and verandah are more comfortable for our guests and performers, and we couldn’t be more grateful. With this grant, we’ve installed new 3-piece table and chair settings, timber bench seats, and portable gazebos.
The impact from this grant was immediate. During recent Open Days, we could host more visitors in the garden and on the verandah, encouraging families and groups to sit, relax, and enjoy their time with us.

The furniture proved especially valuable during our Scottish Open Day in July 2026. With rain forecast, our team had one of the new portable gazebos ready, ensuring the band would be sheltered from the elements.
None of this would have been possible without the support of Bayside Council. Community grants enable the not-for-profit St George Historical Society to open the doors of Lydham Hall for everyone in Bayside and beyond.
On behalf of our members, volunteers, and everyone who visits Lydham Hall, thank you to Bayside Council for investing in the history and heritage of our community.
