The compilation of this booklet has been a difficult self-imposed task with the object of amassing detailed knowledge of the bygone activities of the pioneering families of the Eastern St. George District, once known as Botany Bay.
These hard-working folk, of whom so little has been recorded, were responsible for the initial development of the then dense forest and snake-infested swamp-lands.
The result of their efforts to gain a living turned the scene into one of rural quietude, dotted with unpretentious cottages and teeming with children.
It has been a pleasant experience to meet with the descendants of the pioneering families who are now, for the most part, scattered far and wide.
Much has been left unsaid and one has had to rely, to a large extent, on the personal reminiscences of aged people. Their memories of the days of yore have been accepted without question, but additional information ascertained from time to time sometimes contradicts previous statements.
