La Traviata
The Rockdale Opera Company is excited to present Giuseppe Verdi’s beautiful and timeless classic, La Traviata. It follows the story of Violetta, a high-class courtesan and her ardent but doomed love affair with Alfredo, the young and wealthy son from an influential family. From the infectious drinking song “Brindisi” and the joyous hedonism of Act I, to Violetta’s heartbreak in Act II and the inevitable tragic ending, La Traviata continues to be one of the world’s most-performed operas, for good reason – passionate and emotional music, glittering and glamorous settings and a story that tugs at the heart.
Camilla Wright
Camilla Wright has loved performing with Rockdale Opera with appearances as Alice Ford in this year’s production of The Merry Wives of Windsor, the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor, Adina in The Elixir of Love, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Olympia in Tales of Hoffmann.
Camilla graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Masters of Opera and since then has performed nationally and internationally with companies including the Chinese Three Tenors at the Sydney Opera House, Vavachi Entertainment in Papua New Guinea, Australian Global Entertainment touring around Australia and NCE Entertainment. She has performed Operatic and Art Song concerts in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House receiving great acclaim, has appeared both live and in broadcast performances at the Central Coast Stadium, and has performed for the Governor and for Women’s Spirituality Events.
As well as Opera, Camilla has pursued different paths in music which has led her to often sing in corporate events around Australia, in television ads and recordings as a vocalist, singing at weddings, funerals and private events.
Last year, Camilla performed in Handel’s Messiah with Penrith Symphony Orchestra and will be performing the role of Rita in Donizetti’s Opera Rita in Bogotá, Colombia this October.
Daniel Verschuer
Daniel Verschuer is an operatic tenor, who has been described as “warmly lyrical” and having “a charismatic presence”, and who has performed leading roles in The Magic Flute, Albert Herring, The Marriage of Figaro, Fidelio, Die Fledermaus, The Gypsy Baron and Pirates of Penzance. He has worked with Opera Australia, QPAC, and was in the play Amadeus in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall in 2023, performing with leading Australian actors.
Daniel is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and an alumnus of Pacific Opera. He has previously featured at the Sydney Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and has also performed locally with Rockdale Opera and GSOS, among others.
In concert, Daniel has performed with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Jane Rutter, and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. He currently sings as a lay clerk at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney.
