“I wanted to take this time to thank everyone for conducting such a fabulous event today.
…I wanted to say how fabulous it was.
I enjoyed looking around the rooms of Lydham Hall, and listening to volunteers, so proudly & passionately telling me about the artefacts….
My two friends and I loved the high tea. It was presented so beautifully and the food was yummy! The volunteers performing this task were so friendly and helpful.
Yasmin Arkinstall, the opera singer, was the icing on the cake! The ambience you created in the garden, with people in period costume was just superb. Your attention to detail is to be praised.
I hope your fundraising was successful and I will attend again. I’m really looking forward to hearing the Scots pipers.
A hearty CONGRATULATIONS to all on a job well done!”

“Opera by Yasmin Arkinstall, and Devonshire or high tea in our local historical home Lydham Hall … managed by hard working volunteers from the St George Historical Society. They have a monthly program of events which is very much worth supporting and enjoying.”

An enjoyable, informative experience in a beautiful heritage-listed house
“Lydham Hall is a beautiful historic home in Rockdale in Sydney…The house is full of artefacts from life in 19th and early 20th century Australia…The best thing is that this is a tactile museum; the items are, mostly, not displayed in glass cases, but accessible to pick up, turn over, and examine (gently). The piano is even able to be played, although it needed a tuning last time I was there. The guides, all volunteers, are knowledgeable, and happily talk of the research they do to improve and update that knowledge.
They have excellent catering on site too – their Devonshire teas attract return business on their own, and the pumpkin soup in winter is highly popular. There are booklets and books of local historical interest for sale at bargain prices, too. I picked up several. If the weather is fine, the garden is beautiful, too – sit outside and soak it in. There are views all the way to Botany Bay.
The house is a Victorian sandstone building with marble fireplaces. I love it and have been back several times. In fact, if you join the Historical Society, re-entry to the museum becomes free. They also have entertainment and special exhibitions from time to time – a local band played the last time I was there, and I understand they have an opera singer booked for February! Highly recommended.”

A Rare Historical Home visit
“It is one of the rare historical homes you can go into and be able to actually pick up or touch the displays, with volunteers guides to answer any questions and fill you in on the history of the place.
The Devonshire tea was also lovely.
A very enjoyable experience.”

Hidden gem well worth a visit
“A beautifully maintained historic home set in well maintained gardens and managed by volunteers.
Each room is set up as if the family were still there so it is easy to imagine what life in the Victorian era was like. Lots of fine antique furniture and interesting objects.
The volunteers cooked fresh scones which could be eaten on the verandah overlooking the gardens.
One room has an exhibition about the St George area.”
